Project Information
The Wekiva Parkway Section 8 Interchange Design-Build Project completed the critical “missing link” in Central Florida’s 100-mile beltway, connecting S.R. 429 to I-4 and S.R. 417. This $275.35 million FDOT District Five project spans 2.63 miles in Seminole County and opened in January 2024. As the final segment of the 25-mile Wekiva Parkway, it required complex coordination with adjacent projects and agencies while protecting the Wekiva River’s sensitive habitat. Major work included rebuilding two miles of I-4, constructing 20 new bridges, and widening two others, all while maintaining traffic on one of Florida’s busiest corridors. The project also incorporated sustainable practices such as preserving existing infrastructure, recycling concrete and asphalt, installing energy-efficient LED lighting, and enhancing stormwater management. Innovative design minimized the roadway footprint and optimized ramp geometry to reduce environmental impacts, providing a long-lasting, cost-effective, and environmentally responsible transportation solution.
